With the boom of online courses and proliferation of learning content, Utkarsh Bhimte and I co-created Noggin. Notion, the notetaking and knowledge management software is perfect in nearly every way, but there are some features and functionality that aren’t created with content and course-creators in mind. We set to create Noggin to be everything you love about Notion, plus just a little extra for course-creators.
While Utkarsh was in-charge of coding and developing the product features, I had to first come up with a great name. Noggin! An affable way to refer to someone’s head, or in other words — someone’s home for knowledge and content.
Meanwhile, I was becoming tired with the oversaturated, sans-serif homogeneity of software and tech products. For Noggin, I designed a friendly and warm brand, complete with Cooper Black-esque and serif type, and a unlikely palette for a SaaS product.
People immediately caught onto the name, the colours and overall brand. Noggin looked refreshingly different, but oddly nostalgic and familiar. Noggin has been featured in some online publications and website showcases. One Page Love had this to say, “Good reference to how less-popular typefaces can give your Landing Page a more unique first impression”.
